The discovery of the 31-year-old's brutalized body last week at a state-run hospital has sparked nationwide protests, demanding swift punishment for those who commit "monstrous" deeds against women.
Doctor Rape Horror Incident
Early on August 09/08/2024 Friday morning a 31-year-old female trainee Dr. Moumita Debnath retired to sleep in a seminar hall after a gruelling day at one of India’s oldest hospitals. It was the last time she was seen alive. The next morning, her colleagues discovered her half-naked body on the podium, bearing extensive injuries. Police later arrested a hospital volunteer worker in connection with what they say is a case of rape and murder at Kolkata’s old RG Kar Medical CollegeThe crime in the Kolkata hospital last week exposed the alarming security risks faced by the medical staff in many of India's state-run health facilities.
AUTOPSY REPORT
The initial autopsy report conducted on Dr.Moumita Debnath’s body revealed that she had been raped and strangled to death. A staggering 150ml of semen was found on the female doctor’s body, which is far more than the typical 10ml released by a single man.Additionally, her hyoid bone (neck bone) was broken, she had cuts on her lips, a fractured pelvis (one of the strongest bones in the human body), bleeding from the mouth, damage and bleeding in both eyes, injuries to her abdomen and left leg, a broken ring finger, and hundreds of bite marks were found all over her body.
We Demand Justice
As a result, the High Court also criticized Bengal’s Minister of State Affairs, Mamata Banerjee, and the state police for failing to control the situation. Especially when the public could easily access the crime scene. On August 13th, the Kolkata High Court ordered the state police to hand over the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) due to dissatisfaction with the investigation conducted so far.
It is a denial of justice not to stretch out a helping hand to the fallen; that is the common right of humanity
