Domestic violence cases against women increased in India 🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳

 "Respect women - If you want to be treated like a king then treat your women like a Queen"

In the recent times violence against women has increased in India. Between January and may 2021 more than 2,383 complaints of Domestic violence were filed with the National commission for women.


Domestic Violence is abuse by one partner against another in an intimate relationship such as marriage ,family relationship etc.. It can be physical ,emotion ,economic and sexual abuse.

It is a violation of fundamental right to live with dignity and of right to equality and equal protection of law guaranteed under Indian Constitution and demand proper legal action.


Various reasons for high incidence of domestic violence in India

Lack of awareness, Dowry system and other reasons include Poverty, Alcoholism, Unemployment etc.

These factors put women of greater risk of violence because of the stresses created by financial hardship and relationship crises.

Indian Government Measures for Prevention of Domestic violence

Criminal offence : In 1983 Domestic violence was recognised as a specific criminal offence by introduction of section 498- A into Indian penal code.

Protection of women from Domestic violence act 2005-- it ensures the reporting of cases of Domestic violence against women to protection officer.

Article 21 of Indian constitution ensures the right to live with dignity for women.
